چکیده

In a future scenario where many devices can be controlled using the voice, easy and intuitive access and will be crucial for avoiding cognitive overload when faced with many different systems and interaction models. We propose a model for interaction with spoken language interfaces with heterogeneous tasks, based on the idea of using a family of life-like characters. The properties of these characters are based on psychological and linguistic principles of human natural language interaction. The general idea is that humanlike characters afford for human natural language behavior such as the ability of understanding and producing speech.

Robots That Learn Language: A Developmental Approach to Situated Human-Robot Conversations

Recent progress in sensor technologies and in an infrastructure for ubiquitous computing has enabled robots to sense physical environments as well as the behaviour of users. In the near future, robots that change their behaviour in response to the situation in order to support human activities in everyday life will be increasingly common, so they should feature personally situated multimodal in...

Intentional Context in Situated Natural Language Learning

Natural language interfaces designed for situationally embedded domains (e.g. cars, videogames) must incorporate knowledge about the users’ context to address the many ambiguities of situated language use. We introduce a model of situated language acquisition that operates in two phases. First, intentional context is represented and inferred from user actions using probabilistic context free gr...

MPML: a markup language for controlling the behavior of life-like characters

Animated agents have the potential to convey information in a more natural way than other media traditionally used on the world-wide web, such as text, audio, or video clips. They also allow for more natural styles of human–computer interaction than navigation through hypertext documents. In this paper, we will introduce the multi-modal presentation markup language (MPML), which is a powerful a...

“From Saying to Doing” – Natural Language Interaction with Artificial Agents and Robots

Verbal communication is one of the most natural and convenient forms of human interaction and information exchange. In order for artificial agents and robots to become adequate and competent partners of humans, they must be able to understand and respond to task-related natural language inputs. A typical scenario, which poses the background of our research, is the collaboration of a human and a...

WIP: The Automatic Synthesis of Multimodal Presentations

Due to the growing complexity of information that has to be communicated by current AI systems, there comes an increasing need for building advanced intel l igent user interfaces that take advantage of a coordinated combination of different modalities, e.g., natural language, graphics, and animation, to produce situated and user-adaptive presentations. A deeper understanding of the basic princi...
